How to add a clear AI disclosure to your interface
Short answer
Identify what people need to know, put the notice at first interaction or exposure, and test visibility and accessibility in the real interface. A visible notice does not implement machine-readable content marking.
- Choose the actual use caseA chatbot notice describes an AI interaction. Content and image notices describe generated or manipulated material. Recommendation notices explain the use of AI; the template itself does not establish that Article 50 requires that particular notice.
- Place the notice where it will be seenUse a chat header before the first message, an inline notice near affected content, or a banner immediately before the feature. Do not hide the notice behind a tooltip or a link users must open.
- Generate and integrate the snippetChoose English or German and enter optional purpose/provider details. Copy the complete HTML document or React component, then integrate its notice and scoped styles in your application. Translate optional details yourself.
- Test the deployed contextReview narrow screens, light/dark colors, keyboard navigation, screen readers and the first interaction. Keep the wording distinguishable and accessible. Document any exception you rely on rather than treating a template as legal approval.
Visible notices and machine-readable marking are separate tasks
Article 50 assigns different responsibilities to providers and deployers. Its machine-readable marking requirement cannot be implemented by adding ordinary visible text alone. Public-interest text, deepfakes and direct AI interaction also have different triggers and exceptions. Use the checker to identify areas for review.
